The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them if needed. Some models also self-empty their onboard dustbin into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

  1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

  1. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

  1. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

  1. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or Robotvacuummops.uk voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

  1. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
